Don’t you hate it when jewellery pieces break beyond the point of repair or you lose sections that can’t seem to be replaced?! I was absolutely gutted when a favourite pair of gold spiked hoop earrings broke, I tried and tried to fix it but it was, unfortunately, beyond repair.
However, not one to dwell on the negatives, I realized that the spike “beads” on the hoops were just too cool to be left in a drawer. So, I decided to DIY a simple refashioning and I’ve got to say – I think it looks better now as a necklace than it did as earrings! Plus, the spikes remind me of fangs and with Halloween coming up how could I resist?!
- Thread the beads onto a long length of gold chain.
- Attach a medium jump ring to one end of the chain.
- Attach a lobster clasp to the chain using a small jump ring.
I love refashioning. Especially when it means that I don’t have to say goodbye to accessories but instead can welcome a completely new piece into my wardrobe. Now, that is definitely recession-friendly shopping and I love it!
