DIY “Don’t mess with me” Double Rings

It’s been a busy week on my end – apologies for the lack of DIY posting but man oh man do I love this new DIY! Wearing it makes me feel like I’m part of a biker gang…a really fabulous, fashionable, goth/grunge-chic biker gang…that wear heels, love shopping and cocktails! Ok seriously, if there is a biker gang out there that fits the bill – please hit me up because it sounds awesome! I’ve been indulging in my love of spikes lately so it seems fitting that this DIY matches the whole spike, leather, chained look. Plus, I’ve discovered that many of my knuckleduster and statement rings could very easily double up as self-defence weapons and this DIY is by no means an exception! Looking fabulous and protection? Done!

What you need:

  • 1 ring – with link connectors
  • 1 big statement ring – either with connectors or space to attach the chains
  • 10-11″ Thin silver chain – cut into 3 lengths (one length should be about 4″, one 3.5″ and the other 3″)
  • 9″ Thin gunmetal chain – cut into 2 lengths (one length should be about 4″, the other 5″)
  • 9″ Thick gunmetal chain – cut into 2 lengths (one length should be about 4″, the other 5″)
  • 5.5″ Thick silver chain
  • 16 jump rings (2 large & 14 small)
  • Pliers

How to:

  1. Using the pliers hook the chains between the two rings in this order from the outside in using the jump rings:
    – Thick silver chain (you should use the 2 big jump rings to attach the thick chain)
    – Thin gunmetal chain
    – Thick gunmetal chain
    – Thin silver chain
    – Thick gunmetal chain
    – Thin silver chain
    – Thin gunmetal chain
    – Thin silver chain

  1. The lengths of the chain should get shorter as you work upwards, i.e the top chain should be the shortest. You may need to trim the chains as you go: wear the rings on your index and ring finger so as to make sure the chains are the correct length.

There you go – so easy to make! It can be slightly time-consuming depending how dextrous you are (any regular readers will be aware of my not-so-dextrous skills and the mini-meltdowns that can ensue during particularly “tricky” DIYs. All I can say is try to keep patient, turn on a fan/the AC/open a window, breathe and persevere!) as those small jump rings can be tricky little buggers, but when the result is an awesome statement piece like this – I personally don’t mind the effort!

Happy DIYing!
