DIY Swirly Yarn Clutch

I was recently inspired by Vincent Van Gogh’s painting ‘Starry Night’ to embellish a clutch bag. I loved the sense of movement and lightness in the swirls thus wanted to recreate that in the form of a perfect summer accessory.

This DIY project can be so easily replicated using different coloured and textured yarn so as to match any occasion whatever the season.

What you need:

  • Knitting Yarn (amount will depend on what type of yarn you use; if it’s multicoloured like mine then you only need the one bundle)
  • Clutch Bag
  • Contact Adhesive
  • Scissors

How to:

  1. Using the contact adhesive, stick the yarn down in swirls on the top side of the clutch.

  2. Cut and stick down individual strips of yarn in the gaps between the individual swirls.
  3. Leave to dry.
  4. You can stick yarn down on the underside of the clutch too if you wish. However, if the clutch is quite big and slouchy, embellishing the back of the clutch might make it too bulky and thus a bit clumsy to carry.

Hope you enjoy making this project as much as I do – it was quick and easy (the only time consuming element was waiting for the glue to dry). I just love how the swirls remind me of long dreamy summer days, which is exactly when I’ll be accessorizing with this clutch!

Happy DIYing!
